Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin

As a result of the Economic Opportunity Act, in 1996, the Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin (CAC) came to Waukesha and has served in this area for over 20 years.  Located at 2312 N Grandview Blvd., it is strategically located near the freeway to make CAC accessible for the urban and rural families in Waukesha County and for staff who needed to drive to the families.

When CAC began to look at how to best serve the area a conscious decision was made not to duplicate services already provided by existing agencies.  Some or their program offerings include Rapid Re-housing, Eviction Prevention programs, emergency shelter motel vouchers, and coming this fall, a Permanent Supportive Housing program that will serve the chronically homeless.  The overall goal is to help people through their crisis and at the same time make a positive difference in their lives. All of the programs have programmatic, funder-designated goals mainly surrounding retention of housing as well as increasing income. The results have been excellent in all of the programs in Waukesha County.

According to Jeanette Petts, Program Leader for CAC, “Prevention is the key to ending homelessness; prevent the event from happening in the first place and have measures in place to stabilize households for future success.”  Although Waukesha may continue to have the highest mean income in the state of Wisconsin, there are still people living in poverty that need the services offered by CAC.

We appreciate the Community Action Coalition for their hard work and dedication. For further information on the Community Action Coalition visit their website at www.cacscw.org.
